Rickman Hill Recreation ground has been the home of a rather unsightly derelict building for many years. The building used to be changing rooms for the football club, but when the football club moved to other grounds, the building was borded up and left attracting vandals.
I grew up in Chipstead and I never remember this building being open, When I had the dream to open a soft play cafe in the local area, my mum reminded me about this unused building. I got straight onto Croydon Council and started the long process of arranging the lease.
Now several months on and the lease is signed, the planning permisson is sorted, and the work has begun to open Mother Kitty's.
The name Mother Kitty's came after a conversation with a local lady who pointed out to me that the small woodland area next to the building is called 'Mother Kitty's Shaw'. Mother Kitty's seemed the perfect name!
The long term plan is to open a lovely vintage style cafe with an area of soft play for the little ones, and a nice seating area for everyone to be able to enjoy lunch or tea and cake. In the Summer we can enjoy the lovely outside space and utilise the playground, tennis court, woodlands and football pitch.
Rickman Hill really is a lovely park for everyone to enjoy, so hopefully Mother Kitty's will be a true asset to it.
Thank you for reading - I hope to meet you soon.
